I’m a wee bit of a Sangria connoisseur, mostly because it’s such a versatile refreshment that can be enjoyed year round. I’ve been altering this All Recipes white Sangria for about 4 years now. As you can imagine over time I’ve thought up some handy tricks to make the best Sangria creation and serving so much easier and cheaper. If you’ve ever tackled or are thinking of tackling Sangria then you will probably benefit from these tips:
Avoid dropping large sums of cash on Sangria ingredients by:
- Replacing expensive Cognacs with Brandy.
- Buying boxed wine. Don’t worry nobody is gonna know ;)
- Using generic sprite or 7up.
- Buying non exotic fruits like oranges, apples & grapes. Stick to fruit that is in season (because it’s usually cheaper).
Avoid cumbersome spills or the fruit fishing game by:
- Using bamboo skewers for your fruit.You can cut the skewers in half if it’s a better fit for your glasses.
- In a long shallow serving dish I soak fruit on skewers in a Brandy,Schnapps and sugar mixture. Once Fruit has soaked (I like mine to soak over night) you will want to place them in the serving container with the wine so that all the flavors infuse. In most containers the fruit skewers should stand up vertically making it easy for guests to pick one out and plop into a long glass. If your container is large I recommend having a separate container for the fruit skewers.
Don’t pay for those expensive bulky spigot jars and pitchers (unless you want to). Instead:
- Use a big punch bowl and ladle
- Use an empty water jug (the kind with the spigot). Just cut a hole on the top for ingredients and tape close if you have to transport it.
In the states Sangria especially white Sangria is served very cold with lot’s of fruit which is a great refreshment on a hot day. In Spain they use less fruit and make huge (weeks worth) vats of Sangria which is served at room temperature. Either way Sangria is great for parties or just an afternoon at the cafe. I can hear the flamenco guitars calling me now…… so get to it and try to make the best Sangria. It may take some time to get the swing of it, but that’s part of the Sangria party fun!
