Craft Wars Retro Christmas Easter Sweater Wreath

Well hello friends! These last few weeks have been quite a whirlwind and I must first say thank you to my dear hubby for keeping you all posted on the happenings around Camp Currie. Secondly, I have to thank you and not just for your sweet notes, pats on the back and heartfelt hugs but mostly because you all believed in me long before Craft Wars ever existed! I’ll be writing plenty more about my entire crazy experience in the coming weeks. For now, let’s take a look at this retro granny Christmas/Easter overall rad crafty wreath inspired by last weeks Craft Wars Christmas theme.

This, like most of my crafts has a story behind it. It all started out about 2 years ago when I was at a thrift store and saw this horribly ugly cardigan. It was 3 bucks and the perfect combination of color craft-tastrophe and Currie Kitcsh, so naturally I bought it figuring sooner or later it would get worked into some fabulous project. What you thought I’d actually wear this? Ok, I did, once… To the store and back – and I didn’t get as many weird looks as I wanted to get, so back into the closet the crazy colorful cardi went.

Then one day my crafty friend Margot Potter appears on Craft Wars and is tasked with creating an adorable wreath using Christmas sweaters. Such a fun project! On a side note I’m so happy I wasn’t given this challenge because I’d instantly get sidetracked and start blinging out the sweaters for our next ugly sweater holiday party. See exhibit A.

In the second half of the show Margot created a retro fabulous Christmas tree with the most amazing bright colors. Unfortunately the judges kept saying it seemed like a Spring or Easter type of tree… To which I screamed at the TV ” Ohh you want to see spring or Easter, huh?” Then at the commercial break I ran into my closet – returned holding aforementioned thrift store cardigan and sat down just in time to hear the judges final verdict…… Margot didn’t win…. Which prompted me to scream at the TV yet again. I can’t vouch for the rest of the night as it was pretty much a crafting blur but I know it involved a lot of hot glue and buttons!

The next day when I saw this crazy little wreath in the light I kinda gasped because I wasn’t sure if I loved it or hated it. Right on cue Cliff walks in and says “Ohh that’s really cute!” and with that I deemed this wreath amaze-ballz!

So that’s the story of how the crazy granny Easter sweater became a crafty colorful wreath that will hang at Casa De Currie year round. Easter-smeashter…. I love confusing my neighbors anyway ;)
