5 Simple Christmas Stockings Crafts + Template

5 Simple Christmas Stockings Crafts + Template

Last week I whipped up some simple cute stockings for a TV segment using the below versatile stocking template – which is perfect for kids, adults and crafters of every level. Ohh and it’s only 99 cents to download!  Check out the recorded segment here if you want to see me in crafty action and if you want to see me say Christmas balls twice :) Then check out the examples below! Burlap and Ric Rac Simplicity is key when crafting for a dude, so it’s no wonder that a little burlap and green ric rac goes a long way. Burlap is forgiving so you just top stich it and you are done. Don’t forget to stitch on the ric rac first! No Sew Felt Stocking with Appliques Felt is normally the most forgiving of fabrics and this no sew felt stocking is so simple to create with just a little strong fusible interfacing (Stich Witchery) around the seams. Finish it off with some iron on appliques and you have a cute no fuss stocking. A Little Monogram Felt Stocking Top stich two red felt pieces (along with white piece and loop) and then personalize your little stocking with little felt iron on t-shirt letters. Simple, fun and perfect as a little gift and Christmas ornament. Mini Hot Chocolate Stocking This mini stocking fits a packet of Swiss Miss and marshmallows perfectly! If your sewing machine can handel a little plastic (never use the same needle on plastic and fabric) then simply trace the mini stocking onto a plastic bag then sew a tight straight stich along the template starting just...
Gluten Free Cocoa Crispy Coal Treats Recipe

Gluten Free Cocoa Crispy Coal Treats Recipe

As many of you know we are gluten free which means we are forced to eat rice crispy treats all season long while everyone else gets to chow down on a variety of cookies full of gooey chocolate peanut butter goodness. Not this year my friend! I decided to ward of the gluten free holiday blues by adding some a peanut butter pizzaz and a chocolate kick to the standard crispy treat. I call them the Cocoa Crispy Coal Treats! Ok, so they don’t look like black coal but when you put them inside a parchment paper christmas stocking anything can look like lumps of coal! Check out the parchment paper stocking DIY and other fun stocking crafts here. Cocoa Crispy Coal Treats Recipe Box of Cocoa Crispy cereal Package of marshmallows Half cup agave syrup One cup of peanut butter (We use Skippy natural) Greased pan Directions Bring agave syrup to a simmer then quickly stir in peanut butter, marshmallows and cereal. The trick is to stir fast to keep them from burning. Once it’s all mixed nicely pour into greased pan and wait for it to cool. The end result is gooey yummy peanut butter chocolate marshmallow goodness! Take that...

Most Memorable DIY and Craft Projects of 2011

It seems like just yesterday we were steadily producing our once weekly internet show (Craft-Tastic LIVE) and then BLAM out of nowhere we’re buying a home, laying down laminate, setting up a dedicated craft studio and starting a new blog…. Just 6ish months later Hand MAKE My Day has already racked up 125 blog posts and over 100 unique DIY /craft projects! Don’t worry we’ve whittled it down to our top ten most memorable projects with plenty of visual candy for you ADD creative people (photos have links to corresponding blog posts). 1) The back breaker award. Floating stairs refinish! Cliff spent weeks tediously pulling out hundreds of carpet nails, sanding and sanding and more sanding, then staining. The hard work really paid off! Now we just need a bannister….. 2) The most unlikely popular craft. Paint chip address cards. WOW….. Who knew the entire internet would weigh in on the controversy of paint chip crafting and polarize me as the evil paint chip craft ring leader? 3) Project that made people go “Huh?” Our indoor swing. My mom is still asking what possessed us to hang a swing inside. Our answer; “Because it’s rad!” 4) Favorite craft. Giant Paint Chip Lite Brite Christmas Tree. There’s something about playing with giant Lite Brite that just makes Christmas better. 5) Best up-cycle. The stereo cabinet turned mini shoe closet. Maybe it’s because I scored the stereo cabinet for free and proved to Cliff that it would be put to good use. 6) Favorite creative technique. Ok, I’m patting myself on the back for figuring out how to make the perfect...

An Ugly Sweater Christmas

An Ugly Sweater Christmas

This year we intended on sending out the below holiday card because it highlights our favorite Lite Brite Christmas Tree project! But decided that the very best way to spread Christmas cheers was to wear ugly sweaters that all will fear……. Now let’s pretend you are Tyra Banks judging the America’s Next Top Ugly Sweater Model contest….. Would you (Tyra Banks) pick Cliff with the devil elf sweater and rugged good looks…..? Blah to Bling: Lisa’s Co2 Cartridges Turned Coat Rack

Blah to Bling: Lisa’s Co2 Cartridges Turned Coat Rack

When we put our call out for the “Blah 2 Bling Holiday Gift Exchange” we knew that Lisa Fulmer our insanely talented, smart, funny and creative crafty sister would send us something particularly challenging….. However we weren’t expecting something as random as a bunch of empty Co2 cartridges! Did I mention that Lisa also has a knack for really pushing us over the creative edge? Andrea immediately tasked me with this Blah to Bling transformation and I must say that these little whipped cream Co2 cartridges almost stumped me but I can’t be taken down that easily! After toying with a few complicated ideas I eventually landed on a simple coat rack with an industrial modern vibe. I used a scrap piece of wood, three co2 cartridges and eco-friendly wood stain. Win for the Earth! Andrea put in a special order for a 7 hanger coat rack when saw how cute her purse and scarf looked hanging from the one I made for Lisa…. Good thing she sent us 14 cartridges! Merry Christmas to our dear crafty friend Lisa. Thank you for your endless amounts of inspiration and creative camaraderie. We heart you so very much!...
