The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

As many of you know, Cliff and I have had a rough go at the last 12 months, with the most notable low being diagnosed with a rare breast cancer at the age of 32 and almost dying from severe infection soon after. Luckily, sprinkled among our darkest days were some epic wins, such as the publishing of our very first book called The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects. It’s safe to say that both breast cancer and the book have made us stronger, exceptionally grateful and even more hopeful for our future than ever before. We undoubtedly wouldn’t be as optimistic had it not been for the love and support from our friends, family and you! The happiest news is that we’re back from our blog sabbatical! Yup, we’re finally putting our glittery boots back on and kicking this crafty shindig into high gear! And what a better way to celebrate our creative resurrection than with our favorite creative bloggers and a massive book giveaway! About The Book We specifically wrote and designed The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas for hobbyists, crafty pros, families and DIYers alike. Among the 50 projects, you’ll find our He Crafted/She Crafted panache as well as a plethora of unique techniques, versatile projects, fun materials and of course glitter! The words we love to describe our style in this book are – kitschy, geeky and fun. Some might say it’s a craft battle royal where only one glittery victor can win. I like to think of it as a cheeky craft-off between two very loving people….. but...

Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Lisa and I thought it would be fun to recreate the little gnome home that we hastily crafted up in the Pop Craft Challenge on Craft Wars. I have to admit that at first I liked the idea of doing a smaller scale re-craft without the hour time constraint and the pressure of 8 gazillion cameras hovering over me – Then a funny thing happened….I got bored of the slow pace and a little sad that Tori Spelling wouldn’t be stopping by to remind me that the judges hate hot glue strings. Needless, to say I yearned for something a bit more “complicated”. Eventually the ants in my crafty pants led me to my computer where I spent longer than I’d like to admit creating this free downloadable gnome home template! Andrea Currie Gnome Home Template I guess this means that you all benefit from my C.A.D.D (Craft Attention Deficit Disorder). Lucky you! Speaking of luck you should definitely check out Cathie and Steve’s blog post and enter to win $950 worth of craft prizes! Ohh and don’t forget to watch both episodes of Craft Wars tonight starting at 8/7 central which is 5 pacific and then another at 11/10 central which s 8 pacific. Ok, that was just plain ole A.D.D. Before you leave check out my Halloween home inspired by last weeks Halloween themed Craft Wars episode! How do you like my Halloween house? Perfect for hiding your secret stash of candy, huh? I have a few fun tips and tricks for putting this little gnome home together so come and watch Lisa and I get crafty...

Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

My version of the awesome zipper pillow created by the winning contestant Andrea (yes another Andrea won! WOOT!) is understandably less “extravagant” seeing that I don’t have a Hollywood TV show budget to purchase all of those beautiful colorful zippers and all. Still, I think my zipper pillow would be coveted by any tween or a crafty girl (like me), or maybe even a crafty dog (like Gracie).. If you care to know, I somehow managed to eek out this craft project in under an hour using 4 (random pink and black) zippers, some leftover fabric, a clear disregard for measuring, a little sewing and some Aleene’s Fabric Fusion. Winning! Three cheers for being inspired, crafting with what you have and refraining from spending money on random stuff from the Dollar Store! I hope you don’t forget to watch Craft Wars every Tuesday night at the new time 8 eastern 7 central 5 pacific! Then click here if you are in the mood to chat live with the contestants and Craft Wars judge Stephen Brown on the Spreecast after show (9 eastern 8 central 6 pacific every Tuesday). Craft Wars Altar or Falter Trophy Wife

Craft Wars Altar or Falter Trophy Wife

It’s official, I can now in the most punny possible way call Andrea my “trophy wife”. Now to avoid being called a misogynistic pig I’d like to clarify that this title is so apropos because her episode of Craft Wars was wedding themed (Altar or Falter) and she also happened to craft up this trophy to commemorate her win. Am I being insecure or did I really have to explain that? Would you believe this is only scrap wood, some pvc pipe, and a hot glue gun covered in tons of glitter? To create it Andrea used a used a hole saw that fit her 1 inch PVC, some wood glue and a wooden peg to hold the hot glue gun up straight. Then she took the advice from  Stephen at Glitterville and used white glue (Mod Podge) to adhere her gold glitter. And because a boat load of glitter wasn’t enough bling she added rhinestones with hot glue! Yes Tori, she made sure to take off the strings that the judges hate so much. Phew, nap time. She even made a sweet glitter scissor trophy for her assistant in crafty crime Lisa! Now buckle up because our friends Margot and Andrew Potter are appearing on tonight’s episode of Craft Wars at a new time 8 Eastern 7 Central. That’s earlier than normal so take note and check your local listings. Also check out these other awesome Altar or Falter Craft Wars themed projects from the #CraftWarsVets. – Lisa – margot – angela – pattye – cheryl – esther...
