The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

As many of you know, Cliff and I have had a rough go at the last 12 months, with the most notable low being diagnosed with a rare breast cancer at the age of 32 and almost dying from severe infection soon after. Luckily, sprinkled among our darkest days were some epic wins, such as the publishing of our very first book called The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects. It’s safe to say that both breast cancer and the book have made us stronger, exceptionally grateful and even more hopeful for our future than ever before. We undoubtedly wouldn’t be as optimistic had it not been for the love and support from our friends, family and you! The happiest news is that we’re back from our blog sabbatical! Yup, we’re finally putting our glittery boots back on and kicking this crafty shindig into high gear! And what a better way to celebrate our creative resurrection than with our favorite creative bloggers and a massive book giveaway! About The Book We specifically wrote and designed The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas for hobbyists, crafty pros, families and DIYers alike. Among the 50 projects, you’ll find our He Crafted/She Crafted panache as well as a plethora of unique techniques, versatile projects, fun materials and of course glitter! The words we love to describe our style in this book are – kitschy, geeky and fun. Some might say it’s a craft battle royal where only one glittery victor can win. I like to think of it as a cheeky craft-off between two very loving people….. but...

Glitter Helmets

Glitter Helmets

6 months ago I signed Andrea and I up for a 25 mile bike ride called Bike The Bay. We’ve done this fun ride once before about 3 years ago, a time when we rode our bikes nearly every day… So this year we  prepared (procrastinated) by doing a little binge training the week before and a little crafting the night before. I suppose we figured that nothing powers a 25 mile bike ride better than glittered helmets! I started my helmet bu lightly sanding the areas which I wanted glittered and then used Mod Podge to adhere my glitter. I used super fine Martha Stewart Brand Glitter. Andrea used a Martha Stewart fine purple glitter and a chunky gold glitter which really made it BLING. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous of how much attention Andrea got with her glitter helmet. Not only were people screaming from the sidewalks “OMG I love your helmet!” but she also had some fellow riders huffing and puffing to catch up to her just to tell her how much they ADORED her helmet. Of course she was gracious enough to point out how cool my helmet was too, but apparently these strangers have no love for a man who glittered his helmet! Sheesh! Whatever, we got through the bike ride with ease which I’m sure can be attributed to our awesome glittered helmets! Make Something....
Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

My version of the awesome zipper pillow created by the winning contestant Andrea (yes another Andrea won! WOOT!) is understandably less “extravagant” seeing that I don’t have a Hollywood TV show budget to purchase all of those beautiful colorful zippers and all. Still, I think my zipper pillow would be coveted by any tween or a crafty girl (like me), or maybe even a crafty dog (like Gracie).. If you care to know, I somehow managed to eek out this craft project in under an hour using 4 (random pink and black) zippers, some leftover fabric, a clear disregard for measuring, a little sewing and some Aleene’s Fabric Fusion. Winning! Three cheers for being inspired, crafting with what you have and refraining from spending money on random stuff from the Dollar Store! I hope you don’t forget to watch Craft Wars every Tuesday night at the new time 8 eastern 7 central 5 pacific! Then click here if you are in the mood to chat live with the contestants and Craft Wars judge Stephen Brown on the Spreecast after show (9 eastern 8 central 6 pacific every Tuesday). Currie Kitsch Upcycle-O-Rama

Currie Kitsch Upcycle-O-Rama

For over a year now our friends have been urging us to create what they call “Currie Kitsch” or what I call taking a pile of random dejected stuff and upcycling it into unique, fun, modern, eclectic, geeky pieces. Fun idea right? I thought so too – however getting our hands on a pile of random stuff wasn’t as easy as it seemed. It just felt wrong to buy a pile of stuff from garage sales and not mysterious enough to ask for random things from friends. So, we waited for serendipity…. and it eventually found its’ way to us in the form of a new neighbor needing to get rid of some of the previous owners storage space stuff. Anyone thinking Storage Wars right now? Me too. So yeah…. That’s the stuff! Our new neighbor offered to let us go through this pile and pick out what we wanted but we took the entire thing without taking inventory because we enjoy the element of surprise! Check out this sweet run down entryway cabinet or maybe armoire that we scored! In the weeks to come we’ll be posting an inventory of what we find and any subsequent Currie Kitsch creations. Everything we create will be for sale – Unless we find a pound of gold or something ;) Craft On.    ...
