The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

As many of you know, Cliff and I have had a rough go at the last 12 months, with the most notable low being diagnosed with a rare breast cancer at the age of 32 and almost dying from severe infection soon after. Luckily, sprinkled among our darkest days were some epic wins, such as the publishing of our very first book called The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects. It’s safe to say that both breast cancer and the book have made us stronger, exceptionally grateful and even more hopeful for our future than ever before. We undoubtedly wouldn’t be as optimistic had it not been for the love and support from our friends, family and you! The happiest news is that we’re back from our blog sabbatical! Yup, we’re finally putting our glittery boots back on and kicking this crafty shindig into high gear! And what a better way to celebrate our creative resurrection than with our favorite creative bloggers and a massive book giveaway! About The Book We specifically wrote and designed The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas for hobbyists, crafty pros, families and DIYers alike. Among the 50 projects, you’ll find our He Crafted/She Crafted panache as well as a plethora of unique techniques, versatile projects, fun materials and of course glitter! The words we love to describe our style in this book are – kitschy, geeky and fun. Some might say it’s a craft battle royal where only one glittery victor can win. I like to think of it as a cheeky craft-off between two very loving people….. but...
Plaid Crafts Glittered Trophies with Lisa Fulmer and Cliff

Plaid Crafts Glittered Trophies with Lisa Fulmer and Cliff

One of my favorite parts about being in the craft industry is when a world class crafting company such as Plaid Crafts asks me and my two favorite crafters (Lisa Fulmer and Cliff) to demonstrate a fun project using their products! As you can tell from the photo we had a fantastic time filming our glittered trophy craft segment in the Plaid crafts booth at the CHA Winter show!  Now watch this video to see how we turned some plastic cups into some blingy trophies and how Cliff apparently wanted to craft and cuddle at the same time! Also click this link for some more amazing Plaid demonstrations by our fellow designer friends!   Craft...
5 Simple Christmas Stockings Crafts + Template

5 Simple Christmas Stockings Crafts + Template

Last week I whipped up some simple cute stockings for a TV segment using the below versatile stocking template – which is perfect for kids, adults and crafters of every level. Ohh and it’s only 99 cents to download!  Check out the recorded segment here if you want to see me in crafty action and if you want to see me say Christmas balls twice :) Then check out the examples below! Burlap and Ric Rac Simplicity is key when crafting for a dude, so it’s no wonder that a little burlap and green ric rac goes a long way. Burlap is forgiving so you just top stich it and you are done. Don’t forget to stitch on the ric rac first! No Sew Felt Stocking with Appliques Felt is normally the most forgiving of fabrics and this no sew felt stocking is so simple to create with just a little strong fusible interfacing (Stich Witchery) around the seams. Finish it off with some iron on appliques and you have a cute no fuss stocking. A Little Monogram Felt Stocking Top stich two red felt pieces (along with white piece and loop) and then personalize your little stocking with little felt iron on t-shirt letters. Simple, fun and perfect as a little gift and Christmas ornament. Mini Hot Chocolate Stocking This mini stocking fits a packet of Swiss Miss and marshmallows perfectly! If your sewing machine can handel a little plastic (never use the same needle on plastic and fabric) then simply trace the mini stocking onto a plastic bag then sew a tight straight stich along the template starting just...
San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

I’m excited to announce that I was asked to be the host of a HUGE creative event called DIY Fest which takes place in San Diego on September 29th! This Maker Faire meets Craft Faire type of event is a collaboration between Westfield Mission Valley Mall and Maker Place (see blog post review here) which aims to showcase the work of artists, crafters and makers from sewing to robotics and everything in between. At this interactive event you’ll also find neat demonstrations and crafts for kids. I have to be honest I didn’t quite believe I was going to be the host until I saw the postcard! Not only will I be hosting the event but I’ll also be demonstrating fun crafting techniques and creating Make ‘n Takes with Westcott and Plaid products! Could it possibly get more exciting? YES! On top of all of that crazy awesome stuff – Cliff and I will also be debuting our flagship product line and kicking off our very first Kickstarter campaign! So if you are in the SoCal area on September 29th I recommend you get yourself down to Westfield Mission Valley Mall and join the fun! P.S This is a great opportunity to get your products in front of thousands of people and space is limited so I recommend you get a table ASAP (only $100). He Made a Root BEAR Float

He Made a Root BEAR Float

My entry into the drink challenge (Mixology death match)  is a blend of my two favorite sweets; Gummy Bears and Root Beer Floats. Naturally I call it a Root Bear Float! This festive dessert drink doesn’t necessarily meet the DIY or crafty theme that Andrea set in the challenge rules so I took a picture of my Root Bear Float on my work bench. That should qualify right? Pre-warning– the Gummy bears get a little frost bitten causing you to have to chew a little bit more than normal but that’s a small price to pay for this festive take on a traditional drink. Use Rice Dream ice cream, Haribo Gummy Bear sand Virgils Root Beer for an oh so yummy Gluten free dessert! Enjoy and vote for me!...
Bedroom Paint and One Crazy Week At CHA

Bedroom Paint and One Crazy Week At CHA

I realize that it shouldn’t take 2 adults a whole week to paint a bedroom but we had places to go, people to see and really high walls to paint! Ohh and we changed our minds a few times too. In the end project eradicate bedroom beige was a success and we even managed to have some crafty fun at the CHA trade show! Skip to the bottom if you want to go straight to the bedroom paint pics or scroll slowly to see what life was like for us crazy Curries this week! Saturday: Hey let’s paint! Sunday: Let’s go to CHA (in Anaheim) a day early. Monday: Let’s craft! Tuesday: Let’s force our friends to pick their favorite valentine. Wednesday: Ok back to painting but this time we need a tall ladder. Thursday: Touch up time.  Friday: Somebody get us a drink! If you are familiar with our CHA Folklore post you’ll recall that we turned to all of you to solve our paint dilemma and luckily you rose to the occasion by choosing an awesome deep color purple color called Folklore (By Behr) for our accent wall. Here’s the Behr ColorSmart photo you all picked. We were totally happy with this color combo until at the last minute we decided to change the entire furniture arrangement, which forced us to change the location of our Behr Folklore accent wall to our smallest wall along the window. Doing so actually squared out our awkwardly rectangular room. For the rest of the walls we chose a nice yellowish Behr color called Caribbean Sunrise instead of the Behr Oyster...
