The Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm Craft

The Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm Craft

Squeeeee! If you heard two girls screaming at the top of their lungs last night, it was just my neighbor and I watching The Walking Dead season 3 premiere. I’d apologize but I’m pretty sure we couldn’t help our screeches of horror because the suspense was amazing! Plus the makeup and special FX are incredibly real, which got me thinking….. Those special FX and makeup people are pretty darn crafty aren’t they? I bet they got into professional blood in gore with innocent little crafts like this Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm craft! If you are a zombie enthusiast or you just want to protect your candy I suggest you grab some saran wrap, masking tape, paint and your arm! Sure it’s not as sophisticated as your Hollywood professionals but it sure is crafty! Now if for some reason one of my readers is in fact working on the Walking Dead I would like to put in my plea for a tour of the Walking Dead special  FX department. I’d simply die for a chance to do that ;) Craft...
Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Lisa and I thought it would be fun to recreate the little gnome home that we hastily crafted up in the Pop Craft Challenge on Craft Wars. I have to admit that at first I liked the idea of doing a smaller scale re-craft without the hour time constraint and the pressure of 8 gazillion cameras hovering over me – Then a funny thing happened….I got bored of the slow pace and a little sad that Tori Spelling wouldn’t be stopping by to remind me that the judges hate hot glue strings. Needless, to say I yearned for something a bit more “complicated”. Eventually the ants in my crafty pants led me to my computer where I spent longer than I’d like to admit creating this free downloadable gnome home template! Andrea Currie Gnome Home Template I guess this means that you all benefit from my C.A.D.D (Craft Attention Deficit Disorder). Lucky you! Speaking of luck you should definitely check out Cathie and Steve’s blog post and enter to win $950 worth of craft prizes! Most Memorable DIY and Craft Projects of 2011

It seems like just yesterday we were steadily producing our once weekly internet show (Craft-Tastic LIVE) and then BLAM out of nowhere we’re buying a home, laying down laminate, setting up a dedicated craft studio and starting a new blog…. Just 6ish months later Hand MAKE My Day has already racked up 125 blog posts and over 100 unique DIY /craft projects! Don’t worry we’ve whittled it down to our top ten most memorable projects with plenty of visual candy for you ADD creative people (photos have links to corresponding blog posts). 1) The back breaker award. Floating stairs refinish! Cliff spent weeks tediously pulling out hundreds of carpet nails, sanding and sanding and more sanding, then staining. The hard work really paid off! Now we just need a bannister….. 2) The most unlikely popular craft. Paint chip address cards. WOW….. Who knew the entire internet would weigh in on the controversy of paint chip crafting and polarize me as the evil paint chip craft ring leader? 3) Project that made people go “Huh?” Our indoor swing. My mom is still asking what possessed us to hang a swing inside. Our answer; “Because it’s rad!” 4) Favorite craft. Giant Paint Chip Lite Brite Christmas Tree. There’s something about playing with giant Lite Brite that just makes Christmas better. 5) Best up-cycle. The stereo cabinet turned mini shoe closet. Maybe it’s because I scored the stereo cabinet for free and proved to Cliff that it would be put to good use. 6) Favorite creative technique. Ok, I’m patting myself on the back for figuring out how to make the perfect...

Happy Halloween Carved Pumpkins – A DIY Holiday!

Happy Halloween Carved Pumpkins – A DIY Holiday!

Happy Halloween everyone! We’re still high from our Friday Home Depot coverage and wanted to say thanks for all of your Birthday wishes and comments about our DIY paint chip costumes. We made so much this weekend but because it’s a Halloween we thought it most appropriate to share the fun times we had carving pumpkins with our friends JP and Elizabeth. Pumpkin carving parties are not complete without an impromptu photo shoot of each person trying to look as much like their jack-o-lantern as possible. I didn’t think it would be possible to make a creepy tree face but JP did it like a champ! Elizabeth is just too cute with this sweet little pumpkin! If I had braces I would be his twin! We took a picture of Cliff holding his pumpkin and his sawzall but we found it to be a little too scary to show on the blog. He totally looked like a serial killer which made me realize that our obsession with tools is getting out of hand. I mean it’s one thing to use sawzall to carve a pumpkin it’s another to make a sawzall jack-o-lantern. I’m the worst offender though. I jammed crescent wrenches into my poor pumpkins mouth! We need some serious help people. Craft on....
DIY Paint Chip Halloween Costumes

DIY Paint Chip Halloween Costumes

Before I dive into our last minute DIY paint chip costume shenanigans let me first say that it’s Mr. Currie’s Birthday today! It seems that he gets more handsome with age.  He even makes a cuter paint chip than me! Not fair…. If you’ve been following the blog you’re probably not surprised that our paint chip costumes are inspired by our most controversial and popular blog post (Paint Chip Address cards). Let’s take a visual stroll down memory lane shall we? It all started out with a harmless paint chip craft. Look at us so happy! Then we became addicted and had to start stealing paint chips just to get our craft fix. Sadly Gracie’s lack of opposable thumbs forced her to eat paint chips instead of craft with them…… What a shame. Like most criminals we got a little sloppy and the law eventually caught up to us. The moral of the story is that friends don’t let friends craft with paint chips. Don’t worry I checked with the authorities and crafting up a last minute a giant paint chip Halloween costume with some leftover paint and poster board is perfectly legal ;) Happy Halloween weekend everyone and Happy Birthday to my wacky and wonderful husband! Craft On.     **** UPDATE **** Still confused as to why people find this so funny? Catch up on our paint chip obsession and subsequent paint chip controversy by reading Paint Chip...
