The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects

As many of you know, Cliff and I have had a rough go at the last 12 months, with the most notable low being diagnosed with a rare breast cancer at the age of 32 and almost dying from severe infection soon after. Luckily, sprinkled among our darkest days were some epic wins, such as the publishing of our very first book called The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas: Awesome Craft Techniques for Handmade Craft Projects. It’s safe to say that both breast cancer and the book have made us stronger, exceptionally grateful and even more hopeful for our future than ever before. We undoubtedly wouldn’t be as optimistic had it not been for the love and support from our friends, family and you! The happiest news is that we’re back from our blog sabbatical! Yup, we’re finally putting our glittery boots back on and kicking this crafty shindig into high gear! And what a better way to celebrate our creative resurrection than with our favorite creative bloggers and a massive book giveaway! About The Book We specifically wrote and designed The Crafter’s Book of Clever Ideas for hobbyists, crafty pros, families and DIYers alike. Among the 50 projects, you’ll find our He Crafted/She Crafted panache as well as a plethora of unique techniques, versatile projects, fun materials and of course glitter! The words we love to describe our style in this book are – kitschy, geeky and fun. Some might say it’s a craft battle royal where only one glittery victor can win. I like to think of it as a cheeky craft-off between two very loving people….. but...
Plaid Crafts Glittered Trophies with Lisa Fulmer and Cliff

Plaid Crafts Glittered Trophies with Lisa Fulmer and Cliff

One of my favorite parts about being in the craft industry is when a world class crafting company such as Plaid Crafts asks me and my two favorite crafters (Lisa Fulmer and Cliff) to demonstrate a fun project using their products! As you can tell from the photo we had a fantastic time filming our glittered trophy craft segment in the Plaid crafts booth at the CHA Winter show!  Now watch this video to see how we turned some plastic cups into some blingy trophies and how Cliff apparently wanted to craft and cuddle at the same time! Also click this link for some more amazing Plaid demonstrations by our fellow designer friends!   Craft...
Polymer Clay Valentine’s Day Hearts

Polymer Clay Valentine’s Day Hearts

This year Cliff and I have decided that we are adding polymer clay to our list of creative loves and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our new crafty passion than with  polymer clay Valentine’s day hearts. Cute, no? These wild style polymer clay hearts are great for beginners and polymer clay enthusiasts alike. We simply rolled out the clay and hand cut different shaped hearts. Then we used tiny balls for the marbled effect and small strips for the zebra effect. As you can see the variations are endless and highly addictive. Our only advice is to remember to add a string hole with a bbq skewer before you bake! Craft On....

Glitter Helmets

Glitter Helmets

6 months ago I signed Andrea and I up for a 25 mile bike ride called Bike The Bay. We’ve done this fun ride once before about 3 years ago, a time when we rode our bikes nearly every day… So this year we  prepared (procrastinated) by doing a little binge training the week before and a little crafting the night before. I suppose we figured that nothing powers a 25 mile bike ride better than glittered helmets! I started my helmet bu lightly sanding the areas which I wanted glittered and then used Mod Podge to adhere my glitter. I used super fine Martha Stewart Brand Glitter. Andrea used a Martha Stewart fine purple glitter and a chunky gold glitter which really made it BLING. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous of how much attention Andrea got with her glitter helmet. Not only were people screaming from the sidewalks “OMG I love your helmet!” but she also had some fellow riders huffing and puffing to catch up to her just to tell her how much they ADORED her helmet. Of course she was gracious enough to point out how cool my helmet was too, but apparently these strangers have no love for a man who glittered his helmet! Sheesh! Whatever, we got through the bike ride with ease which I’m sure can be attributed to our awesome glittered helmets! Make Something....
Whiteboard Cartoon Bubble Craft

Whiteboard Cartoon Bubble Craft

I love to surprise Andrea with little crafts and since she has a Crafter-noon coming up I thought I’d whip up one of those cartoon bubbles that seem to be all the rage right now. Luckily this project only required some laminated foam core and a sharp Exacto knife.  In fact the only hard thing about this craft was wrangling Gracie into the photo! You can easily make your own cartoon bubble or any other shape using laminated foam board (foam core) but make sure it has a shiny side because that’s what serves as your whiteboard. Yes, it is erasable! Ok, so I was kinda in a hurry and didn’t get my lines totally straight but as we say in our house “It looks handmade.” I attempted a small border using black dry erase marker but I would recommend doing a black boarder in permanent marker so that you don’t get smudges. Do as I say not as I do ;) I’m sure Andrea will add a wooden dowel so that it doesn’t have to stick to the...
