Burlap Band-Aid Get Well Soon Garland

Burlap Band-Aid Get Well Soon Garland

A guy I know got hurt yesterday which spurred a spontaneous get well soon crafting session last night. I didn’t want to send a typical bouquet and card so I rummaged through Andrea’s craft room and came across two inspiring things; her googly eyed Band Aid card and an excessive amount of burlap. From these I created a Burlap Band-Aid Get Well Soon Garland. OK so I didn’t use any googly eyes but I still think this is a great handmade get well soon alternative for a dude. Don’t you think?...
Currie Kitsch Upcycle-O-Rama

Currie Kitsch Upcycle-O-Rama

For over a year now our friends have been urging us to create what they call “Currie Kitsch” or what I call taking a pile of random dejected stuff and upcycling it into unique, fun, modern, eclectic, geeky pieces. Fun idea right? I thought so too – however getting our hands on a pile of random stuff wasn’t as easy as it seemed. It just felt wrong to buy a pile of stuff from garage sales and not mysterious enough to ask for random things from friends. So, we waited for serendipity…. and it eventually found its’ way to us in the form of a new neighbor needing to get rid of some of the previous owners storage space stuff. Anyone thinking Storage Wars right now? Me too. So yeah…. That’s the stuff! Our new neighbor offered to let us go through this pile and pick out what we wanted but we took the entire thing without taking inventory because we enjoy the element of surprise! Check out this sweet run down entryway cabinet or maybe¬†armoire that we scored! In the weeks to come we’ll be posting an inventory of what we find and any subsequent Currie Kitsch creations. Everything we create will be for sale – Unless we find a pound of gold or something ;) Craft On.    ...
St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Mini Top Hat With Free Template

St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Mini Top Hat With Free Template

I’m quite surprised that Andrea has made a bazillion of these mini top hats but hasn’t ever crafted a green one for St. Patty’s Day. Maybe she is mini top hatted out? Either way, I took this as my queue to whip up a little St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Mini Top Hat for the Gracie girl (yes we’re those type of pet owners). Guess what? I’m actually less embarrassed about the fact that I dress up my dog than I am to admit that I had never actually used Andrea’s ever popular mini top hat template! Luckily I found it quite easy to understand– As in Andrea didn’t have to hover over me while I created it…. The hardest part about this craft was photographing a black dog in direct sunlight! If you want to create a little leprechaun hat for yourself, kids, dogs ect. I suggest you start by downloading the template from scribd and then wander over to Andrea’s mini-top hat blog post from New Years. It has nice instructions as well as a better picture of Gracie in a pink mini top...
He Made a Root BEAR Float

He Made a Root BEAR Float

My entry into the drink challenge (Mixology death match)¬† is a blend of my two favorite sweets; Gummy Bears and Root Beer Floats. Naturally I call it a Root Bear Float! This festive dessert drink doesn’t necessarily meet the DIY or crafty theme that Andrea set in the challenge rules so I took a picture of my Root Bear Float on my work bench. That should qualify right? Pre-warning– the Gummy bears get a little frost bitten causing you to have to chew a little bit more than normal but that’s a small price to pay for this festive take on a traditional drink. Use Rice Dream ice cream, Haribo Gummy Bear sand Virgils Root Beer for an oh so yummy Gluten free dessert! Enjoy and vote for me!...
Gluten Free Pizza and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Gluten Free Pizza and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Having been gluten free for over two years now I can tell you from experience that gluten free foods have not always tasted that great especially baked goods like pizza crust and cookies. Luckily over time mainstream gluten filled brands started offering Gfree options which in turn forced the exclusively Gfree brands to really step up their game. This healthy competition resulted in all kinds of yummy gluten free foods that even our gluten loving friends and families can enjoy. Hooray! Today I’m going to show you our favorite gluten free Valentines Day meal– gluten free pizza and gluten free chocolate chip cookies! In that order ;) We’ve tried a myriad of Gfree pizza crusts, mixes and pre-made but the Namaste brand always wins it’s way into our cupboard as it is the only one that can fool a glutenoid into thinking it’s not gluten free. You do have to bake the crust before you put the toppings on but it’s pretty easy to whip up. To really push the flavors to the artisan level I like to add some Italian herbs into the crust mix before baking. As for toppings we always go for color: green bell pepper, olives and pepperoni or salami. When it comes time for cookies we prefer the chocolate chip variety and it seems that good old gluten free Betty Crocker line of sweets never fails us. I know this sounds stupid but these cookies are in no way healthy. I say this because some of the natural gluten free cookie mixes actually are healthier but the taste is no match for Bettty Crocker....
6 Ways To A Handmade Valentines Day

6 Ways To A Handmade Valentines Day

Cupid’s crafty arrow struck us all they way back in December and we haven’t been able to shake that sadistic little angel since. Sure we could have fought him off with our Hallmark holiday cynicism but alas we are weak love lorn creatives that would rather make art not war. I think we managed to make something for just about everyone. Check it! 1) Burlap Valentines Cut hearts out of burlap and add minimal Val-day accents (like red ribbon) and BLAM a you have valentine suitable for any discerning dude. 2) Burlap cloud that rains down hugs and kisses. I was going through a burlap and plastic necklace phase but looking back on this I think I should have used Chocolate Hugs and Kisses as the rain. Ohh the lessons I’ve learned about chocolate in the last 60 days! 3) Candy Pooping Unicorn. If you want to recreate something as kitschy as a candy pooping unicorn, I have but one recommendation: Use chocolate! I know chocolate on Valentines Day seems so cliche but learn from my mistakes people! 4) Monster of love Proof that chocolate wins everyone over! I’m sure the cute little monster didn’t hurt either. 5) I Love Hue Valentine The perfect Punny Valentine for all of those creative people that spend their days in Adobe Illustrator or obsessing over paint chips or both (in my case). 6) Giant Paint Chip Valentine Photo Back Drop. Proof that Cliff and I totally have what it takes to get onto the Awkward Family Photo website! Pretty good list huh? Out of all of the fun stuff we made we...
