Polymer Clay Valentine’s Day Hearts

Polymer Clay Valentine’s Day Hearts

This year Cliff and I have decided that we are adding polymer clay to our list of creative loves and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our new crafty passion than with  polymer clay Valentine’s day hearts. Cute, no? These wild style polymer clay hearts are great for beginners and polymer clay enthusiasts alike. We simply rolled out the clay and hand cut different shaped hearts. Then we used tiny balls for the marbled effect and small strips for the zebra effect. As you can see the variations are endless and highly addictive. Our only advice is to remember to add a string hole with a bbq skewer before you bake! Craft On....
Gluten Free Pizza and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Gluten Free Pizza and Chocolate Chip Cookies

Having been gluten free for over two years now I can tell you from experience that gluten free foods have not always tasted that great especially baked goods like pizza crust and cookies. Luckily over time mainstream gluten filled brands started offering Gfree options which in turn forced the exclusively Gfree brands to really step up their game. This healthy competition resulted in all kinds of yummy gluten free foods that even our gluten loving friends and families can enjoy. Hooray! Today I’m going to show you our favorite gluten free Valentines Day meal– gluten free pizza and gluten free chocolate chip cookies! In that order ;) We’ve tried a myriad of Gfree pizza crusts, mixes and pre-made but the Namaste brand always wins it’s way into our cupboard as it is the only one that can fool a glutenoid into thinking it’s not gluten free. You do have to bake the crust before you put the toppings on but it’s pretty easy to whip up. To really push the flavors to the artisan level I like to add some Italian herbs into the crust mix before baking. As for toppings we always go for color: green bell pepper, olives and pepperoni or salami. When it comes time for cookies we prefer the chocolate chip variety and it seems that good old gluten free Betty Crocker line of sweets never fails us. I know this sounds stupid but these cookies are in no way healthy. I say this because some of the natural gluten free cookie mixes actually are healthier but the taste is no match for Bettty Crocker....

And then we prayed to the weather gods for no rain and no wind on our 3 mile trek. Phew, we made it but not without a few odd looks from passersby! After a nerve racking 15 minutes we finally got our paint chip into place right at The Home Depot entrance! Then, before we could clear all of our junk out of the way, our first little paint chip enthusiast jumped right in for a picture! Isn’t he adorable? He really really liked the paint chip! and finally a fun family pic in front of our red and pink paint chip of love! 6 Ways To A Handmade Valentines Day

6 Ways To A Handmade Valentines Day

Cupid’s crafty arrow struck us all they way back in December and we haven’t been able to shake that sadistic little angel since. Sure we could have fought him off with our Hallmark holiday cynicism but alas we are weak love lorn creatives that would rather make art not war. I think we managed to make something for just about everyone. Check it! 1) Burlap Valentines Cut hearts out of burlap and add minimal Val-day accents (like red ribbon) and BLAM a you have valentine suitable for any discerning dude. 2) Burlap cloud that rains down hugs and kisses. I was going through a burlap and plastic necklace phase but looking back on this I think I should have used Chocolate Hugs and Kisses as the rain. Ohh the lessons I’ve learned about chocolate in the last 60 days! 3) Candy Pooping Unicorn. If you want to recreate something as kitschy as a candy pooping unicorn, I have but one recommendation: Use chocolate! I know chocolate on Valentines Day seems so cliche but learn from my mistakes people! 4) Monster of love Proof that chocolate wins everyone over! I’m sure the cute little monster didn’t hurt either. 5) I Love Hue Valentine The perfect Punny Valentine for all of those creative people that spend their days in Adobe Illustrator or obsessing over paint chips or both (in my case). 6) Giant Paint Chip Valentine Photo Back Drop. Proof that Cliff and I totally have what it takes to get onto the Awkward Family Photo website! Pretty good list huh? Out of all of the fun stuff we made we...
A Giant Paint Chip Valentine

A Giant Paint Chip Valentine

Cliff always tells me that he feels so lucky that I never ask for roses, or diamonds or chocolate on Valentines day. This year that appreciation wore off pretty quickly when I told him I’d rather have something a bit more “extreme” like an 8 ft giant paint chip valentine! You think he would have learned by now, huh? Check out our Giant Paint Chip Valentine along with time lapse video and cheesy family photos! Luckily our friends at Behr helped my pink and red paint chip fantasies come to fruition by providing us just the right colors: Pink Eraser, Cheery, Firecracker and Poinsettia. Behr’s Firecracker red is so similar to the Pantone color of the year “Tangerine Tango” that it made me want to cover my studio walls in it! If you are newer to this blog and want to see our very first giant paint chip (with a Lite Brite twist) click here. The rest of you enjoy this sweet little time lapse video! By the looks of it I’m pretty sure we accomplished the cheesy photo shoot that we were so inspired to do…… Ok, Cliff in that pink shirt with the Glee Club smile/pose makes me pee a little! And now for the ultimate Valentines Day cheese!  And so the paint chip obsession continues…. What do you think of a giant paint chip Easter bunny?   ***** Update****** See our Giant Paint Chip Valentine in front of our local Home Depot here! and our featured Instructables.com Giant Paint Chip instructions here. My Paint Chip Valentine

My Paint Chip Valentine

I have a confession to make…. When I challenged Cliff to a Valentine duel I had already created a cute paint chip Valentine and boy was I was feeling on top of the world with this clever take on paint chip crafting. I mean “I Love Hue”? Hello that’s a winner if I ever saw one. I’m such a stellar wife…. Anyhoo, karma reared its’ ugly head yet again as my paint chip valentine dreams were squashed by Cliff’s monster valentine with chocolate. CHOCOLATE. It’s like he knows women better than I do…. In order to properly compete I knew I had to drop the paint chip valentine for something a little more unique — a candy pooping unicorn valentine. I could have sworn candy and kitsch would be enough to win this innocent husband wife valentine challenge but according to “you” chocolate trumps candy pooping unicorns any day of the week. Lesson learned… Maybe I should have just stuck with the paint chip valentine design and taped a Hersey’s bar to it? Luckily, my fragile ego wasn’t totally squashed by your completely reckless chocolate driven votes and not all was lost on my original paint chip design either. I’ve since peeled off all the rainbow Tootsie Rolls from my unicorn valentines and gobbled them down while watching a chick flick. Then I used my sweet little paint chip valentine as inspiration for something much much BIGGER. So, keep your eyes peeled for Wednesday’s blog post because we’re about to get crazy with paint chips again. Craft On....
