The Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm Craft

The Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm Craft

Squeeeee! If you heard two girls screaming at the top of their lungs last night, it was just my neighbor and I watching The Walking Dead season 3 premiere. I’d apologize but I’m pretty sure we couldn’t help our screeches of horror because the suspense was amazing! Plus the makeup and special FX are incredibly real, which got me thinking….. Those special FX and makeup people are pretty darn crafty aren’t they? I bet they got into professional blood in gore with innocent little crafts like this Walking Dead Masking Tape Zombie Arm craft! If you are a zombie enthusiast or you just want to protect your candy I suggest you grab some saran wrap, masking tape, paint and your arm! Sure it’s not as sophisticated as your Hollywood professionals but it sure is crafty! Now if for some reason one of my readers is in fact working on the Walking Dead I would like to put in my plea for a tour of the Walking Dead special  FX department. I’d simply die for a chance to do that ;) Craft...

DIY Fest Recap

DIY Fest Recap

Before I get into all the DIY Fest details I’d like to send out a glittery thank you to family, friends, associates, vendors and especially the people at Maker Place and Westfield Mall for making DIY Fest such a fun event. DIY Fest was not only chock-full of great artisian vendors but also whimsical handmade installations such as the chalkboard wishing wall, a forest of amazing yarn bombed poles and even a Lego DIY Fest sign! Marcy the resident yarn bomb artist managed to yarn bomb a shopping cart during the event which I couldn’t resist getting into! Naturally our booth was full of crazy craftiness as we showcased our colorful new line of Paint Chip Pals to the public. Cliff made a neat ipad stand so that attendees could easily sign up for the Paint Chip Pals newsletter. I suggest you do the same by going to Paintchippals.com and leaving your email address!  Thanks to my friends at Plaid and Wescott for filling our craft table with Mod Podge, Podgeable paper stacks, Wescott scissors and scissor mice. Attendees stood in line in the hot sun for a chance to create a bunch of fun crafty take aways using Mod Podge and Westcott’s scissor mouse. Now that’s dedication! In between glittering bottle cap pendants, demoing and selling our Paint Chip Pals collectable button sets I managed to promote DIY Fest on two of our local news stations KUSI and San Diego 6 News. Click here to watch the foam stamp onsie segment I did on San Diego 6 with Courtney Dwyer. Thanks again to all the people that not only put this event together but also...
San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

I’m excited to announce that I was asked to be the host of a HUGE creative event called DIY Fest which takes place in San Diego on September 29th! This Maker Faire meets Craft Faire type of event is a collaboration between Westfield Mission Valley Mall and Maker Place (see blog post review here) which aims to showcase the work of artists, crafters and makers from sewing to robotics and everything in between. At this interactive event you’ll also find neat demonstrations and crafts for kids. I have to be honest I didn’t quite believe I was going to be the host until I saw the postcard! Not only will I be hosting the event but I’ll also be demonstrating fun crafting techniques and creating Make ‘n Takes with Westcott and Plaid products! Could it possibly get more exciting? YES! On top of all of that crazy awesome stuff – Cliff and I will also be debuting our flagship product line and kicking off our very first Kickstarter campaign! So if you are in the SoCal area on September 29th I recommend you get yourself down to Westfield Mission Valley Mall and join the fun! P.S This is a great opportunity to get your products in front of thousands of people and space is limited so I recommend you get a table ASAP (only $100). Glitter Helmets

Glitter Helmets

6 months ago I signed Andrea and I up for a 25 mile bike ride called Bike The Bay. We’ve done this fun ride once before about 3 years ago, a time when we rode our bikes nearly every day… So this year we  prepared (procrastinated) by doing a little binge training the week before and a little crafting the night before. I suppose we figured that nothing powers a 25 mile bike ride better than glittered helmets! I started my helmet bu lightly sanding the areas which I wanted glittered and then used Mod Podge to adhere my glitter. I used super fine Martha Stewart Brand Glitter. Andrea used a Martha Stewart fine purple glitter and a chunky gold glitter which really made it BLING. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous of how much attention Andrea got with her glitter helmet. Not only were people screaming from the sidewalks “OMG I love your helmet!” but she also had some fellow riders huffing and puffing to catch up to her just to tell her how much they ADORED her helmet. Of course she was gracious enough to point out how cool my helmet was too, but apparently these strangers have no love for a man who glittered his helmet! Sheesh! Whatever, we got through the bike ride with ease which I’m sure can be attributed to our awesome glittered helmets! Make Something....
Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Craft Wars Tiny Gnome Home + Free Template!

Lisa and I thought it would be fun to recreate the little gnome home that we hastily crafted up in the Pop Craft Challenge on Craft Wars. I have to admit that at first I liked the idea of doing a smaller scale re-craft without the hour time constraint and the pressure of 8 gazillion cameras hovering over me – Then a funny thing happened….I got bored of the slow pace and a little sad that Tori Spelling wouldn’t be stopping by to remind me that the judges hate hot glue strings. Needless, to say I yearned for something a bit more “complicated”. Eventually the ants in my crafty pants led me to my computer where I spent longer than I’d like to admit creating this free downloadable gnome home template! Andrea Currie Gnome Home Template I guess this means that you all benefit from my C.A.D.D (Craft Attention Deficit Disorder). Lucky you! Speaking of luck you should definitely check out Cathie and Steve’s blog post and enter to win $950 worth of craft prizes! Ohh and don’t forget to watch both episodes of Craft Wars tonight starting at 8/7 central which is 5 pacific and then another at 11/10 central which s 8 pacific. Ok, that was just plain ole A.D.D. Before you leave check out my Halloween home inspired by last weeks Halloween themed Craft Wars episode! How do you like my Halloween house? Perfect for hiding your secret stash of candy, huh? I have a few fun tips and tricks for putting this little gnome home together so come and watch Lisa and I get crafty...

Anniversary Craft: Mosaic Glitter Guitar Lamp

Anniversary Craft: Mosaic Glitter Guitar Lamp

Cliff’s reaction to my Mosaic Glitter Guitar Lamp gift is best compared to the excitement that the dad from A Christmas story had when he first saw the infamous leg lamp, “Ohh where to put this? In the front window of course!” followed by a run out to the street to see how it looks. “It’s glorious!” What can I say, form and function + glitter gets him every time! Here’s a closer look at the glittery mock mosaic menagerie complete with custom ceramic tiles, broken mirrors, washers, glass pebbles, patterned clay, rhinestones and of course lot’s of glitter. Out of all of the cool things I added to this guitar, I’d have to say that I love the wedding vows on the back the most! Since this project was a labor of love I can’t easily lay out a how-to, so instead I’ll highlight the products that helped me create this little gem. Makin’s Clay Mod Podge Beacon’s Quick Grip Beacon’s Fast Finish Decoupage Glue and a whole lot of creativity! A special thank you  goes out to my mosaic mamma who over the years has given me some great mosaic tips. I know it’s not truly a mosaic but I’m sure you’d still be proud ;) Now for a CWSA (Craft Wars Service Announcement) – I cannot stress enough how you should watch Craft Wars tonight at 8 eastern 7 central and 5 Pacific (then again at 8 pacific). Why? Because I know two of the three teams competing and it’s going to be Halloween themed! So please cheer on Angela Daniels with her assistant Pattye Duffner...
Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

Craft Wars Zipper Pillow Craft

My version of the awesome zipper pillow created by the winning contestant Andrea (yes another Andrea won! WOOT!) is understandably less “extravagant” seeing that I don’t have a Hollywood TV show budget to purchase all of those beautiful colorful zippers and all. Still, I think my zipper pillow would be coveted by any tween or a crafty girl (like me), or maybe even a crafty dog (like Gracie).. If you care to know, I somehow managed to eek out this craft project in under an hour using 4 (random pink and black) zippers, some leftover fabric, a clear disregard for measuring, a little sewing and some Aleene’s Fabric Fusion. Winning! Three cheers for being inspired, crafting with what you have and refraining from spending money on random stuff from the Dollar Store! I hope you don’t forget to watch Craft Wars every Tuesday night at the new time 8 eastern 7 central 5 pacific! Then click here if you are in the mood to chat live with the contestants and Craft Wars judge Stephen Brown on the Spreecast after show (9 eastern 8 central 6 pacific every Tuesday).
