San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

San Diego DIY Fest September 29th

I’m excited to announce that I was asked to be the host of a HUGE creative event called DIY Fest which takes place in San Diego on September 29th! This Maker Faire meets Craft Faire type of event is a collaboration between Westfield Mission Valley Mall and Maker Place (see blog post review here) which aims to showcase the work of artists, crafters and makers from sewing to robotics and everything in between. At this interactive event you’ll also find neat demonstrations and crafts for kids. I have to be honest I didn’t quite believe I was going to be the host until I saw the postcard! Not only will I be hosting the event but I’ll also be demonstrating fun crafting techniques and creating Make ‘n Takes with Westcott and Plaid products! Could it possibly get more exciting? YES! On top of all of that crazy awesome stuff – Cliff and I will also be debuting our flagship product line and kicking off our very first Kickstarter campaign! So if you are in the SoCal area on September 29th I recommend you get yourself down to Westfield Mission Valley Mall and join the fun! P.S This is a great opportunity to get your products in front of thousands of people and space is limited so I recommend you get a table ASAP (only $100). 80’s Style T-shirt Craft

80’s Style T-shirt Craft

It just so happens that the 80’s are back in full force which has not only made neon shirts easy to find but also cheap. I don’t know about you but that equation in my house always amounts to an 80’s rock star craft! Of course if you aren’t into the 80’s you could just customize a shirt for one of your Van Halen obsessed friends (or in my case husband)…..I found this electric pink shirt at a local shop and then used some Transfer Artist Paper to add Cliff’s favorite Van Halen song lyric plus a fun rock-star style photo of him  performing as Sammy Hagar (see original photo here)! I couldn’t think of a better “Thank you for taking care of me while I was dreadfully dizzy” gift than a loud, obnoxious homage to the 80’s! Can you? Doesn’t that kind of weathered picture of Cliff in spandex doing a scissor jump in a blonde wig make for a pretty awesome custom t-shirt? He likes it so much that this pink monstrosity may possibly replace the coveted Mod Podge T-shirt that Amy Anderson gave him 2 years ago! Only time will tell…… Craft On....
Whiteboard Cartoon Bubble Craft

Whiteboard Cartoon Bubble Craft

I love to surprise Andrea with little crafts and since she has a Crafter-noon coming up I thought I’d whip up one of those cartoon bubbles that seem to be all the rage right now. Luckily this project only required some laminated foam core and a sharp Exacto knife.  In fact the only hard thing about this craft was wrangling Gracie into the photo! You can easily make your own cartoon bubble or any other shape using laminated foam board (foam core) but make sure it has a shiny side because that’s what serves as your whiteboard. Yes, it is erasable! Ok, so I was kinda in a hurry and didn’t get my lines totally straight but as we say in our house “It looks handmade.” I attempted a small border using black dry erase marker but I would recommend doing a black boarder in permanent marker so that you don’t get smudges. Do as I say not as I do ;) I’m sure Andrea will add a wooden dowel so that it doesn’t have to stick to the...
Bedroom Paint and One Crazy Week At CHA

Bedroom Paint and One Crazy Week At CHA

I realize that it shouldn’t take 2 adults a whole week to paint a bedroom but we had places to go, people to see and really high walls to paint! Ohh and we changed our minds a few times too. In the end project eradicate bedroom beige was a success and we even managed to have some crafty fun at the CHA trade show! Skip to the bottom if you want to go straight to the bedroom paint pics or scroll slowly to see what life was like for us crazy Curries this week! Saturday: Hey let’s paint! Sunday: Let’s go to CHA (in Anaheim) a day early. Monday: Let’s craft! Tuesday: Let’s force our friends to pick their favorite valentine. Wednesday: Ok back to painting but this time we need a tall ladder. Thursday: Touch up time.  Friday: Somebody get us a drink! If you are familiar with our CHA Folklore post you’ll recall that we turned to all of you to solve our paint dilemma and luckily you rose to the occasion by choosing an awesome deep color purple color called Folklore (By Behr) for our accent wall. Here’s the Behr ColorSmart photo you all picked. We were totally happy with this color combo until at the last minute we decided to change the entire furniture arrangement, which forced us to change the location of our Behr Folklore accent wall to our smallest wall along the window. Doing so actually squared out our awkwardly rectangular room. For the rest of the walls we chose a nice yellowish Behr color called Caribbean Sunrise instead of the Behr Oyster...
DIY Laminate Installation–Bedroom Makeover Part 1 of 2

DIY Laminate Installation–Bedroom Makeover Part 1 of 2

We really weren’t expecting to start another laminate installation project so soon but as some of you know Andrea has been quite sick for the last few weeks and after some research we figured out that the likely culprit was our mold and dust infested carpet. So, naturally for the sake of my girls health we kicked off our bedroom makeover project a little earlier than expected; starting with the installation of Du Pont Green Guard Heritage laminate. If you are looking for a more complete Laminate DIY I suggest you check out our living room laminate installation here. Read on if you want to see what we learned the second go around. In order to start the bedroom makeover we first had to move all of our bedroom furniture into the living room and make a little love nest in my adjoining office. We figure we’ll be camped out here for another 5 days while we transform our bedroom into the perfect master retreat. A small sacrifice for a nice relaxing and healthy bedroom. Next, I took on the task of ripping out the carpet. Since we didn’t have 2 sets of knee pads Andrea got creative and used her boogie board to protect her knees while helping with the baseboard removal. As for our laminate choice, we really really REALLY wanted to purchase the less messy TrafficMaster Allure Ultra flooring as it does not require power tools (therefore alleviating a mess) but the cost is prohibitive for us poor first time home owners. So we happily chose the Du Pont Green Guard laminate at only $1.79/sqft down...
