DIY Indoor Swing Resolution

This year instead of ringing in the new year with champagne and a long list of resolutions we (in our true makers spirit) decided to unleash our inner children and hang our very own indoor swing!

We both love how simplistic the swing turned out and how it’s a great conversation piece but isn’t so radical that it becomes the main focal point of our home.

We figure we’re pretty safe on this homemade swing because we used hardware that can hold up to 500 lbs, rope 700 lbs and a sturdy piece of red oak for the seat. It only cost us 15 dollars and the installation was a breeze because we chose to hang it under our easy to reach stairs. We intend on painting a fun swing themed message on the burlap that we draped over an ugly heater door. Something like “mood swing” or “swingers only” seems appropriate. Leave your suggestions in the comments section. For Andrea this swing serves as a reminder that life may have it’s ups and downs but that shouldn’t stop you from trying your hardest to get as high as you can. That’s my girl ;)

For me this swing serves as a reminder to create things that make us happy, the kind of half terrified-half thrilled happy that only a swing can give you!

Cheers to a happy and fun 2012!

  1. I think you better put some fine print on the burlap. Something like:

Swingers swing at their own risk. The Curries do not provide any liability insurance for protection of individuals, business entities, groups, spectators, or others who may participate in swinging.

Individuals, business entities, groups, spectators or others in any way participating or observing swinging do hereby release and forever discharge the Curries, their families (including pets), and agents, jointly and severally, from any and all actions, causes of actions, claims and demands for, upon or by reason of any damage, loss or injury, of any kind or nature, which may be sustained by participating in swinging.

This release extends and applies to, and also covers and includes, all unknown, unforeseen, unanticipated and unsuspected injuries, damages, losses and liability and the consequences thereof, as well as those now disclosed and known to exist.

Or you could paint a cutesy picture of a girl doing the Charleston, captioned “Swing Time!” with a few musical notes floating around.

  2. Do you have specific instructions? This is fantastic!!
