Craft Wars Glittery Bollywood Birdhouse Craft

Last week I was rooting for a fellow Craft Wars Vet (Mandi) to take home the 10k prize and Craft Wars champion title. Unfortunately she was eliminated in the pop craft challenge where the contestants were tasked with creating birdhouses crafted from common junk drawer material. Mandi’s loss and subsequent redemption birdhouse craft inspired me to give the junk drawer birdhouse craft a try! Check out my play by play and then you be the Craft Wars judge!

The Birdhouse Structure

Since the Pop Craft challenge is the fastest hour ever I decided to try and save time by building my main structure out of two castaway dollar store wooden jewelry boxes and a package of flat craft sticks. Pretty crafty, eh?

The Birdhouse Craft Construction

I started out by taking the hinges and clasps off of the jewelry boxes and then tacked them together with some hot glue. I figured my judges (you) would ding me for structural rigidity so I decided to add staples to all the joints. I know I should have used wood glue and nails but the clock was a ticking!

After about a half hour I managed to tack on the back slats with glue followed by staples and a coat of turquoise paint.

My remaining to-do list coupled with practically no crafting time left triggered a painting frenzy and a snap decision to forgo the structural rigidity of staples for a hefty amount of hot glue. I can see my functionality points draining as we speak.

The Birdhouse Decoration

In my head I saw it as a colorful birdhouse beach shack (a nod to the fun beachy theme that the 2 remaining contestants were given for the Master Craft Challenge) complete with a junk drawer wire champagne thingy, a random button and some bottle caps.

However according to my Crafty Sistah and Craft Wars assistant Lisa this birdhouse craft is best described as kitschy Bollywood style birdhouse complete with rhinestones, glitter and wildly bright colors.

I have to admit that I took some snack and dog walking breaks, which in Craft Wars land means I’m a gonner but I’ll still do my best to sell it to you (my forgiving merciful judges) as a sturdy-ish glittery birdhouse perfect for any diva or Bollywood bird ;)

You Be The Craft Wars Judge

I’ve made my case! Now it’s your turn to decide if this birdhouse craft has what it takes to push me through to the Master Craft or if it will have me packing my glue gun! Leave your verdict in the comments section below and don’t forget to watch Craft Wars tonight and every Tuesday night at 8 eastern, 7 central 5 pacific time.
